Were People Surprised When You Left The Witnesses?
by minimus inmine was a gradual going away.
but once it dawned on them, i think people were shocked that i left the religion i espoused from youth.. were people "in the truth" and "in the world" surprised by your departure?.

Do you have something to prove?
by freeflyingfaerie insometimes i have to recheck my motives for doing things.. sometimes i do things for the pure joy of it...dance, yoga, nature walk, listen to music, read something interesting, etc.
but, sometimes when i am engaged in something, like college studies(which i do for the end result and also enrichment), i get flashes of my past that creep in that remind me of a negative message, and it makes me wonder if one of my motives is to also prove something about my self.
at times i recall my ex-husband calling me 'stupid' or 'dumb'.

Quite a touching post. In the words of Scarlett, "Tomorrow is another day". I hope you find some peace. I have replaced JW "friends" with those I have met volunteering and at bookclub. It takes time, but these are people that have been there more for me than any JW. My still in family sees how well we are doing as they are on my Facebook. Yes, I feel a need to point it out that we are enjoying life. Wishing you well.

Don`t know much about the bible!
by Beans inhas anyone read this book?
my good friend quotes read it and gave me a brief description about it and said that if the research done on this book was correct it gives great sceptacism on bible facts and credability!
now i believe one example was the dude who wrote the first five books in the bible (moses i think but i can`t remember) but in the fifth book it says that he lived to be 900 so odd years in the third person revealing that it was not this person who wrote these books?.

by cofty inthis is the letter i wrote back in '96 about the parousia.
following the '95 watchtower that disconnected the "generation" from 1914 i began to look carefully at end-time prophecy and soon discovered what i knew were basic errors in what i had been taught.. i was a loyal jw at the time and was still serving as an elder.
i used only watchtower publications in my research.

What an intense read. Thanks for sharing. Wishing you more success with having a bigger role in your daughter's life. Keeping a record of how and when you tried to contact her will mean a lot to her, if the situation doesn't improve. When she is a teen she'll see proof that you didn't give up on having a relationship with her And that will mean a lot when she needs support and unconditional love (which she won't receive from the JW mom).

1914 countdown card in 2014 Yearbook
by jwfacts inthe 2014 yearbook has a scan of the 1914 countdown card.
it does not say whether this was published by the watchtower or independently, so please let me know if you have any further information about it.
in typical offensive fashion, the yearbook blames the members rather than themselves for the false expectations held for 1914.. some bible students even carried a countdown card so that they could mark off each passing day.

I'm surprised they are calling attention to it. I often wonder if the GB is completely deluded Or do they even see things before they go to print.
